Jun. 24th, 2022 07:22 amHey everyone and happy Friday again. Hope you're all well. I've survived yet another week here. I've actually been flying solo for the better part of the last couple of days, as my neighbor across the hall is on a mini-vacation. But hopefully that mini-vacation is going smoothly. It was sprung on him at the last minute, and he really didn't have enough time to properly get ready. So I feel bad for him, but I'm sure everything will turn out okay.
I finished "Mindfulness Daily" from the Radical Compassion Institute, and earned my certificate of completion. This certificate did not require a paid upgrade, and the process of obtaining it was very accessible with my screen reader. There are at least 2 other free courses from RCI which I am going to take. I actually enrolled in another one just yesterday, which is similar to the course I just finished. This one is "Mindfulness Daily at Work" and I honestly think it would be very useful for a certain former boss at my previous job. She is actually not there anymore, but she was constantly cramming everything into one day and it got rather hectic for us all. I think another neighbor of mine could also use these courses, but he probably doesn't have time to take even one of them.
I was honestly a wee bit skeptical when I first discovered these courses. I've never needed meditation before in my life, and I was therefore rather doubtful of its effectiveness. I knew others who really benefitted from it and I of course was accepting of that fact. I just didn't see a need for it in my life. However, meditation is now growing on me thanks to a neighbor/friend and the 2 course instructors. There might be a minor accessibility issue in "Mindfulness Daily at Work", but that has yet to be determined. However, I now think meditation is useful in more than one area of life. For instance, what if politicians meditated? I think there is at least one who does it on a daily basis. I'm pretty sure this politician is more left-leaning, but what if those science-denying right-wingers meditated? Would they actually be able and willing to sit still and be quiet throughout a single meditation period? I for one am very interested to find that out. After all, aren't these right-wingers the ones who have caused all this trouble lately? Two examples of this which immediately come to mind are the anti-maskers and the anti-LGBTQIA people. Wouldn't it be awesome if these and the other right-wing nut jobs could at least give meditation a try? Who knows, they might think twice about their party affiliation. But then again, am I meditating and this is never actually going to come to fruition? I'll leave that one up to y'all to decide.
In other news of the week...a former neighbor came over yesterday for supper and a good time was had by all. I think that'll have to do it for the week. As always, please take care and be good.
