"Acceptance is simply love in practice. When you love, you accept. When you lack love, you judge." --Abhijit Naskar (born 1991) Neuroscientist, author.
I was born with only light perception, and am fascinated by computers and assistive technology. I also like prank phone calls: not so much making them anymore or receiving them but listening to them. I've been involved with a nonprofit organization for almost 21 years called Center for Independent Futures. Please see the first website linked to here in my profile for more about this great organization, or click on the "Center for Independent Futures" link located near the bottom of every entry page. Note to screen reader users: Clicking this link will take you to a page which might only announce itself as "Home," depending on which screen reader and/or web browser is in use. However, this is indeed the correct website. In addition, I just discovered that at least with VoiceOver on the Mac the rotating? carousel of photos appears to be rather chatty. I'm unsure at present whether this is a bug, or just standard behavior. DISCLAIMER NUMBER 2: Some entries on this site may contain adult material. Those entries will be marked with a link indicating such material. I cannot and will not be held responsible for damages incurred by reading and/or commenting on these entries, unless said damages are the result of non-working links. This content-rating link has been put there as a cautionary measure, so please proceed at your own risk. DISCLAIMER NUMBER 1: This site may contain links to websites which are in no way affiliated with Dreamwidth Studios, LLC. Therefore, neither I nor Dreamwidth Studios, LLC can--and will--be held responsible for the accessibility and/or usability of said websites. But, I have tried my very best to only link to external websites that are accessible and usable. I'm only a screen reader and Siri user at this point in time, and therefore must state up front that what is considered accessible for me and other screen reader users might not be accessible for users of other assistive technology. Please take away from that what you will, and leave the rest for the accessibility professionals. I am not one, nor will I ever claim to be one until the time is right. Most entries found here are freely available to anybody who visits the site, but I have recently been collecting articles for research purposes. Those entries as well as other private ones will remain private until such time when I feel the need to go public with them. I thank each and every one of you for stopping by and hope you enjoy your stay! I haven't done much of anything on Archive Of Our Own, but feel free to follow me on there anyway. I'm also on Goodreads and you can follow me there, but I haven't done much on there yet. Just point your favorite browser to https://goodreads.com/jajoehl . BookWyrm is a similar service, and I recently registered on there. For now at least, the easiest way to follow me on there is by going to their website and searching for jazzyjj. Their website is http://www.bookwyrm.social . Click this link to learn all you ever wanted to know--but were afraid to ask--about audio description: https://adp.acb.org . This is sometimes referred to as video description. Another site with information about audio description, among many other things, is https://www.suchasite.com . Do you enjoy a good book or magazine from time to time? The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled here in America has a wealth of them from which to choose. They are located at http://www.loc.gov/nls . It doesn't cost a single penny, and both audio and Braille material is available. In addition feel free to use the not-so-old email trick when contacting me. Simply send any and all correspondence to jajoehl@att.net or jajoehl@gmail.com . As this journal's title suggests, I write a lot about technology. But you'll also find other stuff here including the occasional or perhaps not-so-occasional political musing/rant. I've started to get a bit more into politics. This was never quite my style, but seasons do change and along with that so must I change.

People have often said to me: "How are you," or some variation thereof. The following banner will take you to a website that answers this very question. Please feel free to try out this tactic on the next person you meet on the street:
. Do this at your own risk though please.
