It is sometimes a good idea to challenge people who have disabilities, and sometimes not. Take the issue of ADA paratransit, for example. For those of you living under a rock or in parts of the world where this service is unavailable, I give this explanation. It is a door-to-door or in some? cases curb-to-curb service which picks people up and drives them to wherever they need to go. Unlike the main-line buses and trains which each have designated routes, paratransit goes anywhere pretty much anytime. In order to qualify for this service, certain criteria need to be met. This is determined by a group of people, which in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs is the Regional Transportation Authority, a.k.a. the RTA. I've honestly had mixed results taking paratransit, but a solution to this problem has been put in place. Actually once I master GPS on the iPhone, I think I'll have an even better experience. My drivers have all been very good, and done what they are supposed to do.

I think that a situation where those of us who have disabilities should not be challenged is vocational rehabilitation services. For instance, the VR services here in Illinois are handled by a parent agency called the Department of Human? Services. Or more accurately, these services are mishandled by DHS. It is super bureaucratic and nothing ever gets done very fast, if at all.
